In fact, we have previously turned down work if we felt we couldn't give the project our personal attention. Indeed, it is just this personal attention to every project that truly distinguishes Distinctive Custom Homes and has made us a trusted name in Lake Forest's close-knit residential market.

At the heart of Distinctive Custom Homes is an effective partnership of Bob Salm and Jamie Childs, which is based on more than two decades of friendship and a wealth of experience, both individually and collectively, in the real estate industry. Having grown up in Chicago's North Shore and currently living in Lake Forest, Bob and Jamie have created a winning philosophy: provide a superior quality home using the toughest of standards, excellent materials, experienced craftsmen and, most importantly, one on one interaction with the customer. This personal attention – Distinctive Custom Homes does not rely on superintendents or project managers – allows for a true collaboration with clients so that the finished product reflects a home owner's personal choices and still honors an established budget.

Both Bob and Jamie graduated college - Bob with degrees in Business and Communications and Jamie with degrees in Business and Marketing - and then pursued careers in the real estate industry. Bob worked for a major residential construction company that specialized in new homes and restorations. Jamie obtained a real estate brokerage license and began working with his father selling and leasing real estate throughout Chicagoland. He eventually began developing properties, including his own home in Lake Forest as well as many others in the North Shore. Despite separate career paths, Bob and Jamie shared a common passion for developing fine homes, and this resulted in their decision to establish Distinctive Custom Homes.
